Incredibly grateful for this open and honest chat on the importance of physical well being and doing my part to help improve the lives of many Australians living with Cerebral Palsy. Thanks for having me link Disability Magazine!

Show goes on!

I think I've undersold myself. I'm ten days in to my month long ride and I've already completed half of the kilometers I allocated to myself. I could take it easy, do less every day, even take a number of days off. Cerebral Palsy doesn't take days off, though. Our need for life changing services doesn't take days off. Our need for support to accomplish our wildest ambitions doesn't take days off. So, I am officially adding an extra 100kms for the month. I'm now in the best shape I've been in my life, so why slow down now? 400kms by March 31st. Let's go!!!

Getting Too Cocky by Day 6

Today, day six of my ride began like any other. My mate/support worker got me ready, strapped me into my bike, and we were off. We made it through the streets without a hitch, and came to the long bike track we frequent every day. About a quarter of the way along comes a bridge you can decide to go over or underneath to continue on the bike track. I was feeling, I would say great, others might say cocky, and took the path under the bridge at at a considerably higher speed than I am usually accustomed to. All of a sudden, I was coming around a corner at over 20 km an hour on a tricycle. As you can imagine, the left wheel tipped, the handle bars swivelled and "WHAM", I was on the ground with the left handle bar slamming hard into my ribs, and my right foot twisted at a momentarily alarming angle, still strapped into the foot pedal.

My mate caught up, and we quickly realised my foot was fine, however, having been stabbed in the ribs by my own handle bars, I was kneeling on the a grass attempting to take another breath for what felt like at least a minute.

I regathered myself, dusted the dirt off my clothes, forced the twisted handlebars back into position, and because I'm me, and I hadn't even cycled halfway yet, I ignored the shooting pain in my side and proceeded to finish the daily 15kms I told myself I had to finish at a minimum for my fundraiser this month.

I don't know about you, but I think I've earned a cheat meal and two games of footy on the couch tonight.

I'm getting active to support people with Cerebral Palsy!

Hi, I’m Angus, and this March I’ve decided to set myself a cycling challenge for Cerebral Palsy Alliance as part of Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month.

In the first few weeks of owning my new recumbent bike, I've been comfortably riding roughly 13kms a day, and those who know me are well aware that if I've set my mind to a goal, I may as well make it difficult. So, I thought 300kms within the month sounded about right!

This ride is my way of showing that both movement and fitness goals look different for everyone – and that with the right support, anything is possible.

I’m fundraising to support babies, children and adults with Cerebral Palsy to access life-changing services, support and opportunities. If you’re able to donate, I’d be so grateful for your support.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you’ll receive a tax receipt via email.
Together, we can make a real difference. 💚
