Hawaiian Iron-man Challenge

By Colin Little

Day zero

My name is Colin Little. I am 49 years old. When my mother was pregnant she had a fall and roughly 1/3 of my brain is missing. I have lived with Cerebral Palsy all my life.

For most of my life I have ignored my disability. I have avoided my physical limitations and focused on academics and my career as a moderately successful lawyer at Deloitte.

However, I have learned recently that ignoring a problem doesn’t make it go away.

I have three beautiful sons, Henry, Alex and Oliver and they are the centre of my life. Unfortunately my capability as a parent has, at times,  been challenged due to my CP.

As such I have made a decision to no longer put myself in a position where I can be judged based on my disability and prove to the world, my sons and myself that cerebral palsy is a source of strength and dignity and not a limitation. . My first thought was to prove to the world that I can climb a mountain but I am very afraid of heights and don’t like the cold. So I needed a plan B. What better alternative than competing in the toughest Ironman race in the world in the tropical paradise of Hawaii. Given my say mediocre state of fitness I am giving myself until 2023 to train and qualify for the race and next year will compete in a number of half and full ironman events.

I intend to document my journey along, the victories and the many challenges along the way. I intend to prove that people with cerebral palsy have no limitations an in raising this awareness I seek your financial support and donation to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance for the amazing support they give to people , often times in much more challenging circumstances than my own.

I'm supporting those with cerebral palsy!
